Using the air conditioning

Every room has its own LG air conditioner with a remote control. The units are powerful and cool a room down noticeably within a few minutes. Here you will find every button explained – plus our recommended setting for a comfortable night’s sleep.

Please note

  • Only switch it on while you are in the room The units cool very quickly, so there is no point in leaving them running while you are at the beach or out and about. Please switch the unit off when you leave the room.
  • Keep windows and doors closed With a door open, the unit works non-stop against the warm, humid outside air. The room never gets properly cool and condensation forms.
  • Careful with JET MODE Turbo mode cools at full power. Perfect for the first few minutes after you get back – but as a permanent setting it quickly becomes too cold.

Our recommendation for the night

Two settings are all you need for a pleasant sleeping temperature:

  1. 1

Press MODE until AI appears on the display

In AI mode the unit regulates cooling power and fan speed by itself. It runs more quietly and more evenly than in plain cooling mode – and it will not chill the room.

  2. 2

    Set TEMP to −1

In AI mode you do not set a fixed number of degrees but a level from −2 (cooler) to +2 (warmer). We have found −1 to be just right: pleasantly fresh for sleeping, without getting cold.

Prefer it cooler or warmer? Simply change the level. If you are sensitive to draughts, switch on COMFORT SLEEP as well – the fan then runs more quietly and the temperature rises slowly over the course of the night.

The remote control

The buttons are labelled in English – here is what each one does.

  • On / Off

The orange button switches the unit on and off. When switched on it starts with the settings you last used.

  • Choose the operating mode

Cycles through the operating modes: cooling, AI (automatic), dehumidify, fan only and heating. The active mode appears on the display.

  • Set the temperature

The two round buttons set the target temperature – in degrees when cooling (18–30 °C), or as a level from −2 to +2 in AI mode.

  • Fan speed

Controls how strongly the air is blown out – from very quiet to powerful, plus an automatic setting. At night the lowest speed or the automatic setting is the most pleasant.

  • Turbo cooling

Cools at full power for a short while. Ideal when you come back overheated from the beach – afterwards please switch back to AI or cooling.

  • Sleep mode

Slows the fan and raises the temperature gradually during the night so you do not get cold. The unit switches off after the set time.

  • Energy saving

Limits the power consumption and cools a little more gently. Hold the button for 3 seconds and the display shows the current consumption in kW.

  • Airflow up / down

Switches the automatic up-and-down movement of the louvres on and off. This spreads the air around the room instead of blowing straight onto the bed.

  • Airflow left / right

Swings the airflow from side to side – also useful for avoiding a draught over the bed.

  • Show the room temperature

Shows the currently measured room temperature for a few seconds – handy for checking whether the room is already cool enough.

  • Timer (SET UP)

Use TIMER to choose a switch-on or switch-off time, ∧ and ∨ to set the time and SET/CANCEL to confirm. The button with the clock symbol deletes a timer you have set.

  • Turn off the indicator light

Switches the illuminated display on the indoor unit off and on again – pleasant if you like to sleep in the dark.

  • Additional functions

Calls up special functions of the unit. You will not need this button during a normal stay.

Good to know

Not getting properly cool?

First check that windows and doors really are closed, and that curtains or luggage are not blocking the airflow.

Soft hissing and dripping sounds

That is normal: the unit removes moisture from the air, and the condensation drains outside.

Display shows °F instead of °C

Hold down the SWING button for the sideways airflow for about 5 seconds to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit.

Please cool sparingly

Every extra degree costs noticeably more energy – and electricity is scarce and expensive on Curaçao. AI at level −1, or 24–25 °C, is comfortable and economical at the same time.
